WEYMOUTH, England, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- British municipal officials say they have settled a nuisance case involving squawking parrots after spending $42,000 prosecuting the birds' owner.

After battling Deborah Coleman, 50, through several rounds of court proceedings, the Weymouth, England, borough council has settled with the owner of three noisy Amazon parrots at the urging of an incredulous judge, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

Saying the costs involved were "out of all proportion," Dorchester Crown Court Judge Roger Jarvis told Coleman and the city to settle the issue to prevent the taxpayer incurring further expenses, noting that if the case continued, it could end up costing both parties a total of $112,000.

"The thought of ($112,000) over three parrots is out of all proportion and I urge all parties to settle this," the newspaper reported Jarvis as saying.

Coleman, saying she wanted to prove a point about "bullying" by the city, agreed to keep the birds inside.

"It might seem absurd that squawking parrots could be the subject of a serious dispute, but of course the situation has been far from laughable for the people involved," the Weymouth council said in a statement.
