Man finds marijuana with his tacos

LAKEWOOD, Colo., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Police say a Lakewood, Colo., man stopped at a restaurant to pick up tacos and got some marijuana in the deal.

The man, whose name was not released, told police he picked up the bag at Del Taco Restaurant on Wadsworth Boulevard and found a small amount of marijuana with the tacos when he and his wife sat down at home to eat, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

Dennis Kiermund, 26, the restaurant worker who waited on the man, subsequently was cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after police allegedly found a small amount of marijuana in Kiermund's backpack in his locker, said police spokesman Steve Davis, adding Kiermund has denied any wrongdoing.

Bridesmaid leaves wedding to give birth

WINCHESTER, England, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A blushing new British bride says her sister was forced to forgo her bridesmaid's duties in her wedding because she went into labor.

Nikki Weeks said mere minutes before her wedding was to begin in Freshwater on the Isle of Wight, her 22-year-old sister Gina had to rush off to the hospital to give birth, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Nikki said after both the wedding and the birth of her sister's child, Harley, went off without a hitch, the wedding reception turned into a celebration for the new family addition.

"Just as the speeches were finishing, our mum got the call to say that Gina had had a healthy baby boy," the 37-year-old bride told the Telegraph. "We all crowded round her mobile phone to see the photos of Harley. He was gorgeous. We had been given the best wedding present ever."

Spider catches, eats bird in web

ATHERON, Australia, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Photographs of a large spider in Australia eating a dead bird suspended in its web are intriguing, scientists say.

Experts say the images taken in Atheron, close to Queensland's tropical north, appear to be real, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Joel Shakespeare, head spider keeper at the Australian Reptile Park, said the spider in the photographs was a Golden Orb Weaver, which are known to grow bigger than a human hand in tropical areas.

"Normally they prey on large insects … . It's unusual to see one eating a bird," he said.

The bird in the photographs was identified as a native finch called the Chestnut-breasted Mannikin.

Shakespeare said the bird likely flew into the spider web and become stuck.

"It wouldn't eat the whole bird," he said. "It uses its venom to break down the bird for eating and what it leaves is a food parcel," he said.

Italian police can taste fake olive oil

ROME, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Italian authorities say 20 members of an anti-food piracy unit have been trained to know counterfeit extra-virgin olive oil by its taste.

Police said the group graduated from a course taught by the National Olive Oil Association Unaprol that included instruction on how to taste fake extra-virgin olive oil and how to determine the geographical origin of olive oil by subtle differences in taste, ANSA reported.

"This initiative will strengthen the defense of the quality of one of the symbols of the Mediterranean diet," Unaprol head Massimo Gargano said.

Gargano said training the task force would send "an unequivocal signal" that oil producers are dedicated to ensuring quality.

Olive oil producers in Italy won a battle this year to make sourcing a mandatory part of the labeling on bottles.
