SYDNEY, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Sydney's best-known bordello went on the auction block Saturday but failed to find a buyer willing to pay the reserve price.

About 50 people were at the auction for A Touch of Class, which opened 36 years ago in Surrey Hills, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. The minimum price was $6.5 million Australian (just over $4 million U.S.) but no one submitted a bid.

Carmen, a well-known madam in the city, was at the auction to see who might buy, not to buy herself. She said she would be interested in becoming the madam if Touch of Class reopens as a brothel.

"I am just having a nosy," she told the Herald. "Someone is going to buy it. I am just going to be a madam."

Wayne Ihaka of LCE Real Estate said the bordello will find a buyer, probably through negotiations. He said in the current economic climate potential buyers are interested in getting the lowest price possible.

Touch of Class was used for scenes from the movie "Candy," starring the late Australian actor Heath Ledger.
