CHICAGO, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A frustrated Chicago Cubs fan who attempted to auction off his loyalty online says he has received a fan-support offer from the Boston Red Sox.

Longtime Cubs fan Scot Moore said after a failed eBay auction for his loyalty as a sports fan, he received a one-year membership offer to the Red Sox official fan club, The Chicago Tribune said Thursday.

Moore said the offer from the Major League Baseball team also includes tickets to a game next season, a Fenway Park tour and an autographed baseball.

The 30-year-old, whose auction last week would have benefited two Minneapolis theater troupes, said he is mulling over Boston's offer.

Meanwhile, Sox spokeswoman Susan Goodenow told the Tribune the team felt compelled to make the offer after noticing Moore's creative sale and sympathizing with the recent continuation of the Cubs' playoff woes. It's been more than a century since the Cubs won the World Series.

"We thought he was very creative and we appreciated that there was a charity aspect to his offer," Goodenow said. "We do feel that empathy for Cubs fans."

The 2007 champion Red Sox broke the "Curse of the Bambino" in 2004, their first World Series win since 1918.
