Man accidentally shoots self at gun show
NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A woman from the West African country of Gambia gave birth at New York's Kennedy Airport shortly after her plane touched down, officials said.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman said while awaiting customs processing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, 28-year-old Fatou Jaw suddenly went into labor, Newsday reported Wednesday.
After communicating her emergency situation to customs officials with her limited English skills, Jaw gave birth to a son with the help of airport workers.
Jaw had arrived from Gambia Tuesday with the hope of finding asylum in the United States along with her three children. Her husband, who already has been granted asylum, watched the children as their mother gave birth to a fourth child.
Newsday said the happy couple later decided to give their newest baby the middle name, JFK.
The New York Post said both the mother and her 7-pound, 13-ounce boy are doing well at a hospital.
