FLINT, Mich., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Some residents of Flint, Mich., say a 20-year-old woman's "Winnie the Pooh" drawings on a vacant house make for a happier neighborhood.
Flint resident Kathy Kirby said seeing drawn figures from the children's literary and film series on the run-down home helps add life to an otherwise bleak location, The Flint (Mich.) Journal reported Monday.
"If I have to look at something, her pictures are better than a boarded-up home," Kirby said.
Kristina Pringle, who started painting the cartoon characters in August, said she is happy to do something she loves and brighten her neighborhood at the same time.
"I'd like to make my street better for sure," the amateur artist said. "And drawing is something I like to do."
Jason Headrick, who lives next to the abandoned house with his wife and 5-year-old daughter, said the paintings bring a sense of hope.
"It brightens them up a bit and (the neighborhood) doesn't look as bad," Headrick told the Journal. "It just goes to show we have nice people around here."
