Wine on tap blamed on plumbing error

ROME, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Some homes in the Italian town of Marino had wine instead of water coming from their taps because of a plumbing mistake, residents say.

One Marino resident identified only as Anna said she was shocked to discover that what she thought was tap water she was using to mop the floor prior to the Marino Grape Festival was actually white wine, The Daily Telegraph said Tuesday.

"I was going to mop the floor with it but I immediately noticed a sweet smell from the tap and it was also slightly yellow -- I recognized instantly it was wine," Anna said.

Marino Mayor Adriano Palozzi told the newspaper the vino on tap was the result of a plumbing error as the wine was supposed to have been directed to the town's main water fountain for the annual festival.

Palozzi said while the sudden flow of wine in several homes prompted some claims of a spiritual miracle, the accident didn't lower festival-goers' spirits.

"I don't think it dampened the enthusiasm of people at the festival and everyone still had a good time," he said.
