NEW YORK, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A New York judge has tossed out a lawsuit that challenged the right of private nightclubs to have "Ladies Night" discount promotions.
Judge Miriam Cedarbaum said the private clubs have the right to charge patrons as they please, despite lawyer Roy Hollander's insistence that free or discounted cover charges for women during the promotions amounted to "invidious discrimination against men," the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.
The judge drew a distinction between Hollander's grievance and the case of two women who successfully sued McSorley's Old Ale House for discrimination in the 1960s after they were refused drinks.
Hollander expressed disagreement with the ruling.
"This lawsuit would have put an end to guys financially subsidizing girls to party at nightclubs," he said.
