SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- City officials in Santa Cruz, Calif., have given the go-ahead for medical marijuana patients to toke up in a tent during an upcoming event in a city park.
The Santa Cruz City Council voted 5-1 to allow medical marijuana patients a special exception to the city's ban on smoking cannabis in San Lorenzo Park provided they remain inside a designated tent while partaking at the Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana's annual WAMMfest, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported Thursday.
"I think it's good. I think it's a good compromise," WAMM co-founder Mike Corral said.
The organization had originally petitioned the city to grant the entire park an exception to the pot smoking rule during the event, but that proposal was tied up in a 3-3 vote by the council.
