NEW BRITAIN, Conn., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- An 88-year-old Connecticut great-great-grandmother says she nearly fainted upon learning she had won a $1 million lottery jackpot.
Rose Marks of New Britain said she nearly left the store without purchasing a lottery ticket Saturday, but something made her remain in line, WFSB-TV in Hartford, Conn., reported Tuesday.
"I waited in a long line, and my son was outside waiting, because I don't drive, and I thought, 'I'm not going to wait any longer,' because the girl was kind of slow, but my feet didn't move, and I'm glad they didn't," she said. "And I bought the Powerplay, but I didn't know how to read it, but I thought Sunday morning when I bought the paper that I had won $200,000."
However, lottery officials said Marks had also picked the correct power play number, which multiplied the payout.
Marks, who said she plans to share her new-found wealth with her large family, said she was chocked to hear the sum.
"She met me with the $1 million, and I'm surprised I didn't faint," Marks said.
