Police return seized medical pot

BOULDER, Colo., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A University of Colorado student says school police have returned medical marijuana they seized from him in May.

Edward Nicholson, 20, said the pot was taken last semester despite his holding a card allowing him to legally carry the intoxicating plant and administer it to his brother, who suffers chronic pain from a football injury, the Boulder (Colo.) Daily Camera reported Tuesday.

Nicholson said he was initially charged with drug possession and suspended from the university during the summer semester, but the school dropped its case against him and allowed him to return after he hired an attorney and threatened to sue.

The university also has changed its policies to allow for students with medical-marijuana cards to apply for off-campus housing. However, it said enforcement on school property would continue in residence halls.
