PICTON, Ontario, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- An escaped monkey in Canada was back at an animal sanctuary after being lured back into captivity with treats, officials said.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday that Julian, a 4-year-old Japanese macaque, was on the loose for nearly two weeks. Julian reportedly escaped from an enclosure at the animal sanctuary near Picton, Ontario, and was found not far from the zoo Sunday.

Ellie Gannon spotted Julian in her yard. She and her husband spread bananas out on their driveway.

"And we kept getting a little closer and a little closer with the bananas and he'd eat the bananas and I kept talking to him," Gannon said.

The CBC reported that the Gannons were able to coax the monkey into the barn where they keep their goats and then shut the doors.

The owners of the private zoo came to pick Julian up. He was to be sent to another animal facility, the network reported.
