NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- A 46-year-old New York resident says she tackled a man who allegedly broke into her apartment and attempted to flee with some of her belongings.
Sales manager Christine Anderson said after returning to her apartment from grocery shopping last weekend, she saw someone going through her things, apparently looking for something to steal, the New York Post said Wednesday.
Anderson alleged that when she confronted the burglar, the suspect shoved her aside and attempted to flee. Anderson told the Post she jumped on the fleeing man's back, knocking him to the ground.
"My gut instinct was to defend my home and stick up for myself," she told the Post of Sunday's incident.
While the suspect allegedly fled the scene with a remote control, an iPod and a BlackBerry belonging to Anderson, one of the woman's neighbors called the police, the Post said. Responding officers found and arrested the suspect.
