MYTILENE, Greece, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Police on the Greek island of Lesbos said a severed finger tip found at the scene of an attempted church burglary led them to a suspect.
Investigators said the finger tip -- which was found at the Aghios Christoforos Church after someone attempted to break into an alms box between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4 -- was traced back to a 33-year-old Romanian man who claimed to have lost his finger tip during a car crash, Kathimerini.com reported Thursday.
Police said forensic investigators performed tests on the finger tip -- which police believe was severed when the attempted burglar dropped the chest on his hand during an attempt to open it -- and determined that it belonged to the suspect. Investigators said they also discovered a hammer and chisel in the suspect's car.
