MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Cindy McCain, wife of presidential candidate John McCain, wore jewelry worth nearly $296,000 to the Republican National Convention in Minnesota, estimators say.

The Arizona senator's wife was seen at this week's political gathering in St. Paul wearing three-carat diamond earrings estimated to be worth $280,000, the Los Angeles Times reported. The newspaper said, according to Vanity Fair, the potential next first lady of the United States paired the costly earrings with a four-strand pearl necklace worth at least $11,000 and a Chanel designer watch estimated at $4,500.

When factoring in a Oscar de la Renta dress thought to cost $3,000 and designer shoes at $600, McCain was wearing during Tuesday's ceremony, the total estimated cost of her wardrobe was just shy of $300,000, the Times reported.

The newspaper said Laura Bush, wife of President George Bush, showed off a frugal wardrobe at the political event in comparison to McCain. The Times said while she wore an Oscar de la Renta suit and pearl stud earrings, her outfit, complete with Stuart Weitzman shoes, was estimated to cost less than $4,325.
