NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- A trucker said he was fired after helping the New York Police Department catch suspects on two separate occasions.

John Acheson said he phoned police Aug. 4 after taking down the license plate number of a car he saw two people drive off in after a 24-year-old man was shot and killed. Police said the information led to the arrests of four suspects, the New York Post reported Monday.

Acheson said police phoned his bosses at Sid Wainer & Son of Massachusetts to explain his delay and he was later reprimanded by his superior.

"I don't know who you think you are. Maybe you think you're a cowboy," the trucker quoted his boss as saying.

Acheson said he made a second call to police Aug. 19 after he saw a woman flee into an alley after hitting a livery driver with a hammer.

The following day, "my boss said, 'John, I gotta let you go. You don't know how to mind your own business,'" Acheson said.
