Water fight not funny to Boston police

Aug. 24, 2008 at 2:22 PM

BOSTON, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Boston police told those gathered in a busy intersection this weekend that fighting with water balloons and pistols would not be tolerated.

An unidentified police officer was quoted as telling the nearly 100 people armed with watery weaponry Saturday they had to disperse so no one would get injured, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

"You guys had your fun," the female officer reportedly said. "It's a busy intersection. There are little kids here. We don't want to see anybody get hurt."

The mass water fight in Boston's Allston neighborhood had been coordinated by an arts group, but three police vehicles quickly descended on the battleground to break up the all-wet melee.

The Globe said Allston Squirt Gun Day came a week after a similar water-themed event took place in Boston. The newspaper said that event featured several participants armed with water pistols staging a re-enactment of a Revolutionary War battle.
