Police said the chase began when a break-in was reported at a Rent-A-Center at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday and officers pursued the suspect, Jesse Masa, 37, until about 2 a.m., when Masa crashed his SUV into a family's backyard swimming pool, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported Thursday.
Officers said there was a stolen TV in Masa's car and he is suspected of a series of burglaries at area appliance stores.
Homeowner Steve Silva said his family was awakened by the commotion in their backyard.
"We heard a loud bang and my wife said to me, 'There's a car in the pool,' and I couldn't believe it. I was pretty surprised. How can there be a car in the pool? I looked out and there was a lot of blue lights so I knew something was happening. Then I looked out and really did see a car in the pool," he said.
