BELOIT, Wis., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The annual Mindset List from Wisconsin's Beloit College says incoming freshmen likely see Jay Leno as the same institution Johnny Carson was to their parents.
The list of so-called cultural touchstones for this fall's first-year college students noted Tuesday that students born in 1990 weren't allowed to stay up so late when Leno took over from the iconic Carson in 1992.
Other people who have been around seemingly forever for the Class of 2012 include Martha Stewart, Justice Clarence Thomas and Harry Potter.
Today's freshmen have also always seen soft drinks in recyclable plastic bottles, had Universal Studios as an alternative to Disneyland and had GPS systems to help them find their way.
Beloit also noted that 18-year-olds take cell phones and wireless Internet for granted and most likely have already checked out their new dorm roommates on their Facebook or MySpace pages.
