BIRMINGHAM, England, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- The city of Birmingham, England, has admitted 600,000 pamphlets given to residents mistakenly bore the image of Birmingham, Ala., instead of their home town.

The photo on the pamphlets, which thanked residents for the success of recycling programs, was originally played off as "symbolic" by city officials, but they later admitted that an error had been made in using a picture of the skyline of the wrong Birmingham, the Daily Express reported Thursday.

"We accept that the wrong photo was used but the text and detail are correct," a Birmingham council official said Wednesday.

The error was first brought to light by packaging firm worker Jon Cooper, 37, who said he makes frequent trips to the United States.

"I'd have thought the council would be a bit more bothered about the image that they put out of this Birmingham, especially if it's going into hundreds of thousands of homes," he said.
