CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Neighbors of a house in North Carolina that got an "Extreme Makeover" courtesy of ABC say the attention was a mixed blessing.
About 60 people showed up for a community meeting Tuesday in the Windsor Park neighborhood in Charlotte, the Charlotte Observer reported. Curtis King, the recipient of the makeover, apologized for any convenience caused by construction and television crews.
One complaint was that King's house was turned into something too elaborate for the neighborhood of modest 40-year-old one-story houses.
"They say they don't build McMansions," said Ray Montgomery, who lives next door to King and his wife, Alisha. "That's a McMansion in this neighborhood right now."
King said the design was not his choice.
Others complained of construction workers trampling their yards. They said ABC, after promising neighbors would be able to view the makeover, forced them to travel to a mall and return by bus to get a look.
But others said the exposure on a national television show could only be good for Windsor Park. Jim Roberts, president of the neighborhood association, closed on an upbeat note: "Let's make our yards look as good as theirs."
