MUNDELEIN, Ill., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Police in Mundelein, Ill., said an irate customer at a tanning salon damaged property after he was refused service by management.
Investigators said Kevin Stepp was charged with disorderly conduct, reckless conduct and criminal damage to property after he threw a phone and broke a glass countertop Aug. 3 at Awesome Tan following an argument with a manager, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.
Mundelein Police Sgt. John Monahan said an employee refused service to Stepp after attempting to access the man's account. The employee called a manager, who explained to Stepp over the phone that he was no longer welcome to tan at the salon because of an earlier incident when Stepp claimed he was burned by a tanning bed and demanded a refund, Monahan said.
Awesome Tan has a policy of only issuing refunds if doctor's notices are presented to prove the tanning beds were the cause of the burns.
The police report said Stepp became angered during his phone conversation with the manager Aug. 3 and threw the phone against a wall. The phone rebounded from the wall and cracked a glass countertop, the police report said.
Stepp was released on a $1,000 bond.
