LAKE VILLA, Ill., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A suburban Chicago man called police for help after he discovered a 4-foot boa constrictor lodged beneath his pickup truck.

Daniel Fiocchi said he pulled off the road to investigate when a passing motorist told him there was something that looked like a rope hanging from his truck, the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported Wednesday.

After popping the back of the truck off its frame, Fiocchi saw the snake staring at him.

"I didn't want to touch it or let it go free over there, so I called police," Fiocchi said.

Officers from Lake Villa nudged the snake out of its hiding place and took it to the police station.

"We think it was either abandoned or escaped from a home near where Fiocchi lives in Antioch," Lake Villa Deputy Chief Roger Schroeder said. "We're hoping the owner comes forward and claims it."
