Man learns casino losses not deductible
PERTH, Scotland, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A vacationing Australian sheep shearer has admitted breaking into the hotel room in Scotland where a Swedish couple were sleeping.
Benjamin Davis pleaded guilty Wednesday in Perth, The Daily Record reported. He had been scheduled to return to Australia next week but remains in a Scottish jail to await sentencing.
Prosecutor Janine Bates said that Davis was angry after being refused admission to the Bridge of Cally Hotel near Perth. He used a window to enter the room where Lena Martensson and Stefan Veraeus were sleeping.
Martensson woke first and shook her boyfriend awake.
"Davis stood over him and told him not to get out of bed," Bates said. "His body language was very aggressive. Mr. Veraeus was frightened."
The couple eventually escaped from their room, with Davis pursuing them down the hotel corridor.
Davis's lawyer, David Sinclair, said he wanted to apologize, especially to Martensson and Veraeus.
"He had far too much to drink. He remembers drinking whiskey and that's not normally his drink," Sinclair said..
"He is shocked and appalled by the way he has behaved. It is completely out of character for him."
