SAN JOSE, Calif., July 29 (UPI) -- Police in San Jose, Calif., said they had arrested a man accused of drunkenly breaking into an airport and attempting to fill his car with airplane fuel.
Officers said the man was arrested on suspicion of theft and driving under the influence at Reid-Hillview Airport, the San Jose Mercury News reported Tuesday.
"We've had people try and steal gas here in the past," said Jim Meide, an operations employee at the county-run airport. "It's really stupid. Put aviation gas in your car and it's so heavily leaded that eventually your valves warp and you'll end up with some very expensive repairs."
Meide said it was not yet clear how the man got into the secure area but an investigation has been opened.
"There's no security guard, but there's fencing around the entire property and the gates have combination locks. He must have gotten the combination from someone, somehow. We'll find out," he said.
