BRADENTON, Fla., July 21 (UPI) -- Officials in a Florida county said they threw a party Monday to celebrate the 60th birthday of the manatee that serves as the county's mascot.

The officials said Snooty, a manatee that lives in a 60,000-gallon pool supplied by Manatee County, will be treated to strawberries and pineapples for his birthday Monday, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Monday.

Despite his advanced age, Snooty continues to perform tricks he learned during his first year of life, officials said.

Snooty was obtained by the county in 1949 after the Miami Aquarium was only able to obtain a permit to keep a single manatee. The animal has remained with the county ever since, despite scattered attempts to have Snooty moved for breeding.
