WINNSBORO, Texas, July 13 (UPI) -- A Texas man delayed an alleged burglar until police arrived by starting a conversation with him, police say.
Police in Winnsboro, Texas, said the unidentified homeowner allegedly caught John Michael Baker, 25, attempting to flee from his home Thursday and used his knowledge of the suspect to delay his escape, the Tyler (Texas) Telegraph reported Friday.
"They knew each other so the homeowner just started talking to the suspect after he had called 911 and was able to keep him there on the side of the road," Wood County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Debbie Foster said.
Baker was arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary.
Foster told the Telegraph a likely contributing factor was Baker's alleged level of intoxication during the alleged crime.
"He was pretty intoxicated and well I don't think we've had one quite end like this before," the police official said.
