ST. CHARLES, Ill., July 11 (UPI) -- Police in St. Charles, Ill., say they are investigating a music festival that was overlooked by officials until several fans were picked up on drug charges.

One person overdosed and four were arrested for having drugs including cocaine, Ecstasy and LSD at the 1st Annual Midwest Electronic Music Festival, the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported Friday.

About 1,500 people attended the event on the Kane County Fairgrounds June 27 to 29, the newspaper said.

"It brought an element to the community that is not welcome and will never be welcome," Mayor Don DeWitte said.

DeWitte said the city was "not pleased" to learn about the event only after their services were needed.

"Once all the information is collected, we will be addressing this issue with the fairground management personnel," he added.

Fairground manager Chris Unger said the event's promoters showed him paperwork proving they paid local taxes.

"There's no way the city didn't know this was happening," Unger said.
