Son beats dad in pit spitting contest

EAU CLAIRE, Mich., July 6 (UPI) -- Brian "Young Gun" Krause bested his father Rick "Pellet Gun" Krause to win this weekend's International Cherry Pit Spitting Championship in Michigan.

Hopeful competitors showed up to exercise their best spitting skills at the 35th International Cherry Pit Spitting Championship at Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm in Eau Claire, Mich., Saturday, the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune reported.

Brian Krause, 30, of Dimondale, Mich., beat his father, Rick Krause, 54, of Yuba City, Ariz., by 6 1/2 inches. "Young Gun's" winning spit was 56 feet, 7 1/2, the Tribune said. Combined, they have won the pit-spitting crown 20 of the 35 years it has been awarded.

Amanda Jennings, 18, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in Canada, said it was "cool" to win in the women's category for the second consecutive year. This year, she took the competition with a 43-foot, 11-inch spit, the newspaper said.
