NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) -- The holder of the world record for hot dog eating has won his second consecutive title at a New York competition.

Joey "Jaws" Chestnut clinched victory at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July contest at Coney Island after the competition's first-ever tiebreaker between the champion and Japanese rival Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi, CNN reported Friday.

Chestnut and Kobayashi went into the tie-breaker round after they both finished 59 hot dogs and buns during the 10-minute eating race. To break the tie, the pair raced to see who could finish five hot dogs in the shortest time.

Chestnut put away all five dogs in 60 seconds, News 10 Now reported.

"It would be ridiculous to go in there extremely confident, but I'm just going to go out there and give it my best and push hard on the Fourth of July," Chestnut said before the contest.
