BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 4 (UPI) -- A young man in northern Hungary who thought he was doing the right thing by giving police a World War II grenade unwittingly set off an evacuation.

The unidentified man found the rusty and corroded Soviet-made grenade in his yard, and decided to take it to the police station in Esztergom, the national MTI news agency reported Friday.

That set off a chain reaction of evacuations of the police station and buildings nearby, and the bomb squad was summoned, the report said.

The grenade was safely taken away and dismantled, and police later questioned the man as to why he didn't call police instead of delivering it. He explained he didn't feel like waiting around for a disposal unit, and couldn't see the danger in a dilapidated grenade, the report said.

Police didn't charge the man, the report said.
