CORAL GABLES, Fla., June 28 (UPI) -- Efforts to destroy a building in Coral Gables, Fla., by implosion were unsuccessful Saturday.

The 12-story building failed to fall when the series of explosive charges took down the outside steel structure but left the inside elevator shaft and staircase standing, The Miami Herald reported.

The president of the demolition company later said the earliest time for the next implosion would be Sunday morning.

He said crews would work around the clock to dig out debris in the basement to replace the explosive charges.

The site will be the future home of an Old Spanish Village development, the newspaper reported.
