Man pays alimony to sex-changed spouse

TAMPA, Fla., June 18 (UPI) -- A Florida man resents paying alimony to his ex-wife, now that his ex-wife is a man.

"I didn't marry a man. I didn't divorce a man. The law is making me pay to a man," Larry Roach told WSTB-TV in Tampa.

Roach said that he wishes the former Julia Roach -- now Julio Silverwolf -- luck. But he resents paying $1,250 a month to maintain Julio's gender identity.

The couple met on a blind date and married a few months later. He said that he wondered why his wife had cut her hair short, her voice had deepened and she needed to shave.

But he said he only realized his wife had a new sex-changed identity when she got into an accident after their divorce and he looked up the police report. He discovered that she was now Julio.

Roach has remarried and would like to get out from under his alimony payments. But a judge told him that legally his ex-wife is still entitled to them.

Miffed couple to peddle smut in Colo. town

ALLENSPARK, Colo., June 18 (UPI) -- A couple in rural Colorado is blaming the county for forcing them to open a pornography store instead the of the ATV rental shop they wanted to run.

Jeff and Vicki Mead told the Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder, Colo., that the Boulder County Commission rejected their application for a permit to store and rent all-terrain vehicles in the tiny town of Allenspark, Colo., so they are going into the X-rated sector and plan to name their shop after neighbors who complained the loudest to the commission.

The Meads say they plan to set up shop in a former art gallery and have their grand opening in August.

"Allenspark is the most pornographic place I've ever seen," Jeff Mead told the Camera. "It's a town where half the people are paying attention to the other half's business. I thought it would fit right in."

Beer kegs explode in back of truck

LAS VEGAS, June 18 (UPI) -- Nevada officials said a chunk of Interstate 15 was closed Wednesday morning in Las Vegas after numerous beer kegs exploded in the back of a truck.

Bob McKenzie of the Nevada Department of Transportation said the truck driver began hearing noises coming from the back of the vehicle, which was carrying 278 kegs of beer, while traveling south on the interstate, KVVU-TV, Las Vegas, reported Wednesday.

McKenzie said the driver reported seeing smoke and exited the truck shortly before the kegs began to explode.

Police said the carbon dioxide in the kegs caused them to explode.

The southbound on ramps at Flamingo Road and Spring Mountain Road were closed Wednesday morning for cleanup.

Whopper price set for gourmet burger

LONDON, June 18 (UPI) -- A Burger King restaurant in London is offering customers the world's most expensive hamburger for the extraordinary sum of $190.

The Gloucester Road home of the whopper has concocted a special burger to benefit the Help A London Child charity, Britain's Sky News reported Wednesday.

The $190 sandwich features wagyu beef, white truffle, pata negra ham slices, crystal onion straws, modena balsamic vinegar, lambs lettuce, pink Himalayan rock salt, organic white wine and shallot-infused mayonnaise in an Iranian saffron and white truffle dusted bun.

"It sounds delicious," says celebrity chef Anthony Worrall Thompson. "The ingredients are very good and high powered."

Burger King's new burger beats the previous world record for the most expensive hamburger set by New York's Daniel Boulud in 1994. Boulud's DB Double Truffle Burger cost $130.
