BLOOMINGDALE, Fla., June 3 (UPI) -- Emergency responders in Bloomingdale, Fla., said it took them 3 1/2 hours to free a 15-year-old boy who became wedged while climbing a tree.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue workers, sheriff's deputies, county parks crews, a tree service and a tow truck driver converged Monday on Paul Sanders Park after the teenager fell into a deep crevice between two limbs while climbing an oak tree, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Tuesday.
County Fire Rescue spokesman Ray Yeakley said rescuers used chisels and drills on the tree until the boy could be freed using a harness.
Hillsborough Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Anthony Rodriguez said the teen did not appear to be injured but was taken to Brandon Regional Medical Center as a precaution.
"He was glad to be out," Rodriguez said.
