Men driving to 48 U.S. states in 5 days

SALT LAKE CITY, May 5 (UPI) -- Three men are on what they call a "Great American Road Trip," trying to drive through the lower 48 U.S. states in just over five days stopping only for gas.

North Salt Lake, Utah, residents Joshua Keeler, Joey Stocking and Adam Gatherum left from Vermont Sunday to begin their mega road trip, the Star Tribune reported Monday.

The Minneapolis newspaper reported the three men, ages 20-25, had made it to Alabama, their 17th state, by Monday morning.

"This route has been checked and rechecked for shorter possibilities and triple checked to be sure that all 48 states are included," Keeler wrote on greatamericanroadtrip.us.

The adventurers are tooling about 7,500 miles across the country in a 2005 Toyota Scion xB because "it is roomy and gets good gas mileage," Keeler wrote.

The men said they are going to use the help of a global positioning system and AAA maps to make sure they don't get lost along the way.

Mom angered by racy books in clothes shop

LYNNWOOD, Wash., May 5 (UPI) -- A Washington mother with a teenage son said she was outraged to find books with sexual content on sale at the teen clothing store Urban Outfitters.

Marci Milfs of Lynnwood said she plans to file a complaint with the city of Lynnwood about the books, which she said do not belong in a clothing store aimed at children and teenagers, the Everett (Wash.) Herald reported Monday.

Milfs said she has already raised the issue of the books -- which include "Pornogami: A Guide to the Ancient Art of Paper-Folding for Adults," and "Porn for Women," a book featuring pictures of men doing housework -- with state Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, and conservative non-profits including Morality in Media, Concerned Women of America and the American Family Association.

The mother said Urban Outfitters' corporate office in Philadelphia refused her demand that the books be removed.

"They said they are not sex books or pornography books, but that they are art books and their goals are to support artists," Milfs said.

However, Milfs maintains the books should not be seen by children.

"It's not freedom of speech," she said. "It's selling adult books to teenagers."

Dunkin' Donuts worker busted for potty cam

KINGS PARK, N.Y., May 5 (UPI) -- An ex-New York Dunkin' Donuts worker was arrested for allegedly hiding a camera in the women's restroom and viewing the footage on his computer, police said.

Danish Qureshi, 25, of Huntington Station, N.Y., is accused of hiding a small camera in a phony smoke detector looking over the women's bathroom at Dunkin' Donuts, Newsday reported Monday.

"This is one aberrant act committed by a store employee using poor judgment," a Dunkin' Donuts statement said.

Police said a man who had similar equipment reported Qureshi's plan when he accidentally picked up footage of the bathroom on his home system.

It is reported Qureshi is facing charges of second-degree unlawful surveillance, which is a Class E felony.

He was let out of police custody on $7,500 bail Sunday after being arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip, N.Y., the report said.

Fighting soldier accidentally calls home

OTIS, Ore., May 5 (UPI) -- An Oregon couple said their son, a soldier serving in Afghanistan, accidentally called home and left a three-minute recording on their machine during a battle.

Jeff and Sandie Petee, parents of Stephen Phillips, said the message contained shooting, shouted profanity and calls for more ammunition, KPTV in Portland, Ore., reported Monday.

"His friend died a year ago in Iraq and I'm thinking, 'Oh my God, this may be the last time I hear my son's voice on the phone,'" Sandie Petee said.

"They were pinned down and apparently his barrel was overheating," said Jeff Petee. "It's something a parent really doesn't want to hear. It's a heck of a message to get from your son in Afghanistan."

The parents said they were eventually able to make contact with their son, who told them his phone accidentally redialed their number when it was pressed up against his Humvee during the battle. Sandie Petee said Phillips, who is in the Army's military police, is expected to come home at the end of his tour next month.
