BOULDER, Colo., May 1 (UPI) -- Colorado's Boulder Humane Society says it has reached an agreement with a woman cited for dyeing her dog pink -- no citation if she does no more dyeing.

The agreement with Joy Douglas, a salon owner who said she colored her dog, Cici, pink to promote breast cancer awareness, says the citation will be dropped provided she does not dye another animal during the next six months, WKMG-TV, Denver, reported Thursday.

Douglas, who used beet juice and Kool-Aid to dye Cici's hair, received a citation March 1 from the Humane Society that said she violated a law that says, "No person shall dye or color live fowl, rabbits or any other animals or have in possession, display, sell or give away such dyed or colored animals."

Assistant city attorney Janet Michels said the legislation was put in place to halt the practice of dyeing rabbits and chicks during the Easter season.

"We recognize the ordinance hasn't been used in some time," she said. "But our position is that the ordinance is enforceable for violations of today."
