PIKESVILLE, Md., April 29 (UPI) -- Police in Pikesville, Md., say residents have repeatedly been woken up in the middle of the night by a loud boom and an accompanying flash of light.

Residents said the sound has been heard more than two dozen times, always between midnight and 7 a.m., WJZ-TV, Baltimore, reported Tuesday.

Police said they have captured the light and sound on tape and have narrowed down the approximate area the light originates from, a location they estimate to be about 30 to 40 feet off the ground.

"It wasn't until we caught it on tape that we realized the magnitude of what they were actually talking about," said Sgt. Vickie Warehime. "The sound is almost deafening. You can't describe it. Seeing it on tape without hearing the sound doesn't do it justice."

Investigators said cameras have been repositioned to help them narrow down the search and find the origin of the phenomenon.
