18 chickens found in yard

GLEN BURNIE, Md., April 29 (UPI) -- Police in Anne Arundel County, Md., said 18 chickens discovered in a yard in the town of Glen Burnie have been taken to an animal rescue ranch.

Officers said a homeowner phoned police Thursday to report the chickens had appeared without explanation in the yard of the home, The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.

"The citizen advised the dispatcher that she did not know who owned the chickens and wanted them removed from her property," Anne Arundel police said in a statement.

The statement said the chickens have been taken to Cheryl's Rescue Ranch in Harwood, Md., where the owner has until Thursday to claim them. If no one comes forward, the chickens will remain on the ranch, police said.
