ELY, Nev., April 19 (UPI) -- A Nevada dog owner says he was surprised when his Siberian husky returned after running away 77 miles away from home a week earlier.

Doug Dashiell nearly gave up hope of seeing his dog Moon again after she got loose form her chain April 6 while on a trip to Tonopah, Nev., 77 miles away from their Ely, Nev., home, the Ely Times reported.

Dashiell said he stopped his truck to let his three dogs out when Moon's chain broke and she went running. He searched for her for hours, but eventually left to go home, the newspaper said.

He was surprised when the White Pine Veterinary Clinic contacted him early Monday and said she was back in town.

Despite stinking like a skunk, Moon reportedly was in good shape when she arrived home.

"I want to get her to where she smells halfway decent," Dashiell said.
