BERWYN, Ill., April 19 (UPI) -- The skewered cars sculpture featured in the movie "Wayne's World" appears bound for the scrapyard after a failed online auction, an Illinois mall official says.
Concordia Realty official Michael Flight, whose company manages the Berwyn mall where the spindle sculpture resides, said an attempt to sell the huge piece of art on eBay has failed to attract any bids, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Saturday.
Flight said if anyone was interested in owning the auto impalement piece, they should act soon since its days are numbered at Cermak Plaza.
"I don't want to speculate when it's going to come down because we don't have a firm date, but we're looking at the summertime," he said.
The auction ended Thursday and Flight said mall officials had no problem parting with the item as long as a bidder had the $150,000 needed to buy and remove it.
"We tried. If somebody would have bid, we would have happily sold it to them," he told the Sun-Times.
