FRANKLIN, Tenn., March 27 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old girl allegedly hurled a rock at a clerk while trying to rob a store in Franklin, Tenn., police said.
The Mapco Express employee said he notified authorities because the child was away from home at night and attempted to hold up a business, WSMV-TV, Nashville, reported Thursday.
The clerk told police he didn't know what the girl was trying to do during Monday's incident until she threw a stone at his chest and demanded money three times.
"At that time, the clerk said, 'You need to leave the store,' and came around the counter toward the front of the store. At that time, the child ran out," said Franklin Police Detective David Dixon. The child reportedly was returned home safely.
Police said the girl ran away from her home late Monday and that if she is charged they hope to find out what prompted her to try to rob the store.
