Viagra just won't do when pandas pitch woo

BEIJING, March 25 (UPI) -- Animal handlers in China say they've developed a program to help pandas court and spark and -- hopefully -- prevent extinction.

The "sexercise" program feature hip- and pelvic-strengthening "dances" for male pandas to help build stamina, CNN reported.

The animals' low sex drive isn't helping get them off the endangered species list, leading the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding handlers to give nature a nudge, or push. Pandas are solitary animals in the wild, coming together only in the spring to mate.

Keepers place a male panda in a female's den when she's not around and vice versa, allowing them to smell each other's odors. If they look a little interested in taking the relationship to the next level, the keepers bring them together.

In front of younger, inexperienced pandas. There's nothing voyeuristic -- it's for educational purposes, the report said.

"We arrange love-making between two excellent pandas in front of inexperienced pandas, which have never had sex. It does work," said the reserve's deputy chief, Fei Lisong.

Alleged con woman strikes out on 3rd try

CINCINNATI, March 25 (UPI) -- A woman who went to an Ohio county courthouse to pick up an indictment faces another charge after she allegedly cheated the blind owner of the courthouse deli.

Melissa Cordell is now charged with theft by deception. She was arrested at the Hamilton County Courthouse, the Cincinnati Enquirer said.

Cordell allegedly gave Kent Parker, owner of the Courthouse Deli, a $1 bill, telling him it was a five. A few minutes later, police said, she upped the ante by telling him she had given him a $10 bill.

She was arrested after allegedly trying the trick a third time. That time, an employee saw what she was up to and alerted Parker.

Trailer with 20 tons of chocolate stolen

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind., March 25 (UPI) -- Police said a semi-trailer containing more than 20 tons of Hershey's chocolate candy has been stolen from a Michigan City, Ind., truck stop.

LaPorte County Police Chief of Detectives John Boyd said the thieves likely did not know what the trailer contained, as it was only labeled with the trucking company's name and the amount of stolen chocolate may be too large to be practical for black market sales.

Truck driver Daryl Rey, 58, said he left the trailer Saturday at the Gas City truck stop on U.S. 421 and he returned the next day to find the 53-foot-long trailer, which contained 41,000 pounds of chocolate treats, had been stolen. He said the hidden satellite tracking device had been removed from the trailer, leading him to theorize professional thieves may have taken the load.

Netizens scamming the scammers

SURREY, British Columbia, March 25 (UPI) -- A Canadian woman weary of e-mail scams said she is fighting Internet crooks by playing naive and wasting their time.

The Surrey, British Columbia, woman, who identified herself as Nissa, said she constantly asks scammers for more information so they'll pay her special attention and spend less time scamming more gullible Internet users, the Vancouver (British Columbia) Province reported Tuesday.

"I think I can get a few months out of him," she said of one scammer, who gave his name in the e-mails as "Patrick Chan," who she has been stringing along for three weeks.

Nissa is one of an increasing number of Internet users to devote time to scamming the scammers. The results of some successful scam baiters can be seen at Web sites including thescambaiter.com and 419eater.com.

Despite the growing trend, Canadian anti-fraud hotline Phonebusters said at least 4,000 Canadians were victimized by e-mail scams in 2007. The victims lost a collective $18 million, the company said.
