ORANGE PARK, Fla., March 20 (UPI) -- A Florida woman says Clay County officials ordered her to remove a banner supporting the U.S. military from in front of the business where she works.

Ella George, a military widow, said the owner of Annabelle's Interiors gave her blessing for a banner reading "Salute Every Generation's Heroes" to be displayed in front of the shop. But county officials said the 6-foot-long banner violates sign ordinances, WJXT-TV, Jacksville, reported Thursday.

"It was like someone had just slapped me in the face, basically," George said.

The county's code enforcement notice that asks for the banner's removal cites a 2004 ordinance that banned banners in front of businesses. However, George said the ordinance only prohibits banners that advertise the business, so her tribute to U.S. soldiers should not be affected.

"This is not advertising," George said. "This is a military community, and I think right now with everything going on in Iraq and our men dying for us over there it's time for us to support them. By doing something small like this -- I think it helps."
