3-month-old horse saved from septic tank

CITRA , Fla., March 19 (UPI) -- Firefighters reportedly rescued a young horse in Citra, Fla., after it fell into a septic tank and got stuck.

Mary Rolka, who owns at least 30 horses, said the frisky colt, named Shooter, was born just three months ago and that his adventurous spirit comes from his mother, WFTV in Orlando, Fla., reported Wednesday.

"Well, she likes to jump fences. So she always jumps fences and the only way the baby can be with her is to learn to jump fences too," Rolka said.

When fire department officials arrived, Shooter's back end reportedly was the only visible part of him.

"When they got him up and he stood on all four feet, 'Oh, he's gonna be OK! Thank God!'" Rolka said.

The only treatment Shooter needed after his Tuesday adventure was time and salve for healing scrapes, WFTV reported.

Woman auctions fish sticks on eBay

ELYRIA, Ohio, March 19 (UPI) -- A woman in Elyria, Ohio, is selling fish sticks on eBay, claiming she found crosses in them as a sign from God honoring Holy Week, a report said.

Victoria Landis said she couldn't find it in her heart to cook the store-bought fish sticks after seeing in them what she believes is a Holy sign, WEWS-TV in Cleveland reported.

"I went to cook them one day and I poured them out into the pan and there were three kind of fused together in a way that made three mini crosses, and the way they fell on the pan it looked just like the hill where Jesus was crucified," Landis said.

Landis decided to auction them off in an effort to raise money for a family van.

EBay has a policy against selling food items, however.

Teen's school project burns home

CARY , Ill., March 19 (UPI) -- A house in Cary, Ill., sustained about $75,000 in damage when a teenager working on a school assignment set the home on fire, authorities said.

When firefighters arrived they found flames in a bedroom had moved to the hallway and damaged three other upstairs rooms, the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported. Two teens and a family cat safely escaped the fire, authorities said.

Officials decided the blaze began accidentally after a teen dropped a flaming piece of paper into a garbage can. The teen was trying to antique the paper by setting fire to its edges, authorities said.

The Monday incident reportedly is the third Cary house fire reported in the past three weeks.

Man insures nose for $8 million

BORDEAUX, France, March 19 (UPI) -- A Dutch wine producer in Bordeaux, France, has purchased an insurance policy worth nearly $8 million for his nose, a report said.

Chateau de la Garde owner and maker of Tulipe Wines, Ilja Gort, purchased the policy to protect him if he ever were to lose his nose or ability to smell, London's Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

"This certainly is an insurance policy not to be sniffed at. The nose and sense of smell of a wine maker are as important as the fingers of a chef," said Jonathan Thomas, top underwriter at Watkins Syndicate.

Watkins Syndicate reportedly co-insured Gort's plan with Allianz Nederland.

Gort claimed his nose was his most prized possession and that a keen ability to smell was needed to ensure the caliber of his product.
