Police: Dad helped son attack student

WEST ROXBURY, Mass., March 6 (UPI) -- A father has been arrested after he allegedly led a group of adults into a West Roxbury, Mass., high school to help attack one of his son's classmates.

Police said Edwin Reyes, 39, was arrested after he, two of his son's uncles and an unidentified woman allegedly entered West Roxbury High School through the unlocked front door and proceeded to the cafeteria, where Reyes' son identified a student whom he accused of attacking him the previous day, The Boston Herald reported Thursday.

The adults allegedly formed a circle around the student while Reyes' son repeatedly punched the other boy, police said.

Investigators said the adults fled in a car, allegedly striking a school police officer. Reyes has been charged with trespassing, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and other charges.

A spokeswoman for Mayor Thomas Menino said the incident has raised questions about security in the schools.

"The mayor is very concerned," spokeswoman Dot Joyce said. "The superintendent told him that there are 29 doors that need to be secured at the school.

"He wanted to know what has been done and what is being done to make sure this never happens again," she added.
