NEW YORK, March 1 (UPI) -- A woman who used the New York Daily News to propose to her boyfriend has earned a "yes" from her future husband, the newspaper said Saturday.

Film production assistant Sean Smith said he had no idea his girlfriend, Marina Maiuri, was planning to ask him to marry her until he opened up Friday's Daily News.

"It was a big surprise and I didn't suspect a thing," the 41-year-old future groom said. "It took a lot of guts for Marina to do what she did and she's very special to me."

"I read the article and couldn't believe my eyes. Of course, I didn't hesitate to say 'yes.'"

Maiuri, 33, said she was glad not only with her boyfriend's affirmative answer but with how she chose to ask the life-changing question.

"I'm really glad I did it in such an unusual way," Maiuri told the Daily News "It's a day we will never forget."

The newly engaged couple also earned an appearance on the "Today" TV show.
