Anti-dwarf-tossing law affects bar's plans

NEW YORK, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A New York bar may have to change its dwarf-bowling plans with Howard Stern's sidekick Beetlejuice, because of a state law.

Big Nose Kate's Saloon in Richmond Valley, N.Y., may not be able to host their event Saturday because of a 20-year-old law that prohibits alcohol-licensed businesses from hosting dwarf-tossing and dwarf-bowling events, the Staten Island (N.Y.) Advance reported Wednesday.

"In a civilized community, we can't say, 'Let's roll with that. Let me pick a team,' If we do, the Romans were saints compared to us," Staten Island Borough President James P. Molinaro told the Advance.

The anti-dwarf tossing law was signed in 1990 in response to complaints from the Little People of America advocacy group and other objectors, the report said.

"They don't get hurt. They like that (stuf)," Beetlejuice (Lester Green) said.

Big Nose Kate's owners could face a $10,000 fine and have the bar's liquor license revoked if they break the law, the newspaper report said.
