WATERLOO, Ontario, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Three people in Waterloo, Ontario, face weapons charges after a man standing more than half a mile away was struck by a stray bullet, police said Friday.
An unidentified 35-year-old man called police Wednesday morning when he felt a "pang" on his leg, the Canwest News Service reported.
Waterloo Regional Police spokesman Olaf Heinzel told Canwest while the injury was quite minor, officers fanned out from the scene.
"We found three people doing target practice in a wooded area at the time," Heinzel said. "We believe the bullet strayed and traveled through several acres and a tree-lined area before striking the man. Luckily, in this case, the victim was far enough away that the bullet lost most of its velocity when it reached him."
Two 23-year-old men and a 21-year-old woman were charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and possession of a prohibited firearm. Police were trying to locate the registered owner of the unidentified gun, Heinzel said.
