NEW YORK, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A 24-year-old New York woman is running for a record to become the youngest person in the world to complete a marathon on each continent for charity.

Already having run 26.2-mile marathons on five continents, Erin Sprague is preparing to run in Antarctica next month, her non-profit organization In The Running said Wednesday in a release. In the Running, of which Sprague is the chief executive, pairs a grassroots charitable organization on each continent with each marathon.

The charities benefiting from the marathons, which she kicked off in 2005 in New York, tackle such issues as obesity, human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, poverty, peace, global warming and education.

"The sponsored organizations are on the ground solving real problems, but need vehicles like In the Running to combat donor fatigue and expand outreach," says the non-profit's co-founder Dana Worth.

Sprague, who graduated from Harvard and works in New York, is scheduled to run her final marathon in Australia in July.
