'Bottom' dance inspires rear injections

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Ivory Coast doctors say treatments claiming to increase the size of a user's backside, which have gained prominence due to a popular dance, could be dangerous.

Black market treatments aimed at giving rounder derrieres to users spiked in popularity following the emergence of a dance craze inspired by the Djoula-language song "Bobaraba," which translates to "Big Bottom," performed by DJ Mix and DJ Eloh, the BBC reported Monday.

However, Ivorian gynecologist Dr. Marcel Sissoko said the treatments, which include injections and rub-on creams, could be dangerous, as they do not list their ingredients and are obtained without the advice of a physician.

"This medicine could be dangerous for your health because we don't know the ingredients. It's being used without a medical prescription," he said. "The health ministry hasn't authorized this and doctors don't know what's in there, so there are risks."

Meanwhile, DJ Mix said he and his musical collaborators do not want women to feel pressured by their song to try to change their bodies.

"If a woman goes dancing and wants to take two or three treatments, no problem," he said. "But we don't say to girls that they must take treatment to enhance your bottom, no."
